BIO
Todd Longwell is a journalist who has written for a wide range of publications, including the Los Angeles Times, the New York Post, American Cinematographer, Emmy, Filmmaker, StreamDaily, Nylon Guys and, yes, even the Weekly World News.
Earlier in his career, he served as senior editor for the pioneering alternative movie magazine Film Threat. For ten years, he was a regular contributor to The Hollywood Reporter, and he recently served as the the managing editor of VideoInk . He is currently a regular contributor to Variety.
Longwell has done a wealth of celebrity and executive profiles, analysis of industry trends, and in-depth features on technology, finance and below the line talent (VFX, cinematography, costume design, production design, editing, etc.). He was one of the first to write in-depth about the domestic production incentive race that has transformed the way Hollywood does business, and now he's neck-deep in covering the streaming video space, which is turning it upside-down. He's doing his part to help it along, as any good UCLA film school grad should, by capturing the excitement of its ever-shifting strategies and its emerging young talent on video, and posting it to YouTube.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Longwell lives in glamorous North Hollywood with his wife Romy, daughters Tristan and Hayden, a Newfoundland (Chuck), a fetch-happy golden retriever (Dexter) and a small white dog of indeterminate lineage (Dolly). He does not enjoy writing about himself in the third person.
